Reciprocal Rights
Canterbury Golf Events
When a club is hosting a Canterbury Golf event and reciprocal rights are needed by the host club, as a guide the number of reciprocal tee times would be determined by the number of players entered from each individual club. It is the host club’s responsibility to coordinate with other Canterbury Golf clubs to request reciprocal tee times through the Secretary/Manager. It is assumed that if players are competing in a Canterbury Golf event then the tee off times that would have been taken by those persons in normal circumstances at their home club will now be available. Please be touch with Canterbury Golf if you are having difficulty in obtaining reciprocal rights.
South Island & NZ Golf Events
When a club is hosting a South Island or NZ tournament/representative event and reciprocal rights are needed by the host club, it is the host club’s responsibility to coordinate with other Canterbury Golf golf clubs to request reciprocal tee times through the Secretary/Manager. In this instance clubs are asked to help accommodate requests as best as possible to assist the host club that have made their course available to run a major event on the South Island or NZ Golf calendar.
Interclub
When a club is hosting an Interclub round, then each club competing at the designated venue is to make available the equivalent number of tee off times, equal to the number of players they have involved.
Benefits of arrangement:
(a) Clubs will understand what is required from them under the Reciprocal Rights Agreement.
(b) Balanced requests for these rights, no Club having to provide more spaces than expected.
(c) Clubs meeting their responsibilities and obligations.
(d) Only uses those tee off times that home club players would have played in if no tournament or event were scheduled.
(e) Uniform requests from all clubs seeking reciprocal rights with a policy laying down requirements under this agreement.
All reciprocal rights bookings must be made by the recipient’s home club Secretary/Manager to the host club’s Secretary/Manager. Due notice must be given and bookings are subject to availability of tee time.

Practice Rounds
From time-to-time we have had instances of members turning up to clubs expecting a free practice round ahead of interclub or a Canterbury tournament being played at that club. There have also been cases of “friends” being bought along to take advantage of the opportunity as well. This has caused unnecessary embarrassment and conflict to the parties involved.
It therefore needs to be reiterated that there is no obligation on any golf club to provide free practice rounds for interclub or Canterbury tournaments.
Each golf club will makes it own decision on whether or not it wants to charge.
All Club Administrators and Team Managers should follow this process:
- All requests for practice rounds must be pre-booked by the Club Administrator or Team Manager by contacting the club a week prior to the day they wish to play. Note enquiries from individual members will not be accepted.
- Part of the booking will be a discussion as to any green fee payable.
- It is recommended that the club being visited request the names of those intending to play that practice round so they can be matched up on the day.
Therefore members who turn up to a club without pre-booking from a Club Official can expect to be asked for a full green fee or turned away.
