The finals of the North Canterbury Interclub series were completed on Sunday at the Kaiapoi Golf Club.
Players were greeted with great weather and a golf course in excellent, firm and fast condition.
As expected competition across the three matches, Kaikoura Cup, Gardner Cup and Templeton Cup, was tight with little between all teams.
The Kaikoura Cup saw Pegasus Blue up against Rangiora Green. Rangiora got first points on the board with Dan Gread defeating Zac Norton. Phil Stephens balanced the ledger against Steve Williams. Paul Martin and Matt Burns halved their match, so it was down to the last pair of Sam Flavell and Pegasus Mike Taylor. A superb use of the ” Texas wedge” saw Taylor win the hole and send the team match to playoff with the match tied at 2 all. Phil Stephens duly obliged for the Pegasus team securing a par on the first extra hole to defeat Matt Burns.
Pegasus Blue win the Kaikoura Cup for 2025.
The Gardner Cup pitted Amuri and neighbours Culverden/Combined.
Apart from Jason Sincock’s big win for Amuri all the other matches went to the 17th and 18th holes. In those holes, wins to Culverden/Combined’s Andrew Green and Brent Berry were enough to give them the win 2.5 points to 1.5 points and with it the Gardner Cup for 2025.
In the Templeton Cup final had Scargill up against Waimak Blue. Solid early wins to Scargills Jamie Fleming, Stu Moir and Mark Butler had them in the box seat and with Murray Jackson winning on the last they had enough points to win the match 4 games to 2. Duncan Chisholm and Lachlan McKenzie got the points for the Waimakariri Gorge Blue team.
So Scargill are Templeton Cup Champions for 2025.
Thanks to all the players who participated in the series which proved very popular with excellent numbers competing.
