After three days of gross stableford action in Ashburton our Canterbury Masters ladies have snuck home for a 3rd place finish on countback. In a format which sees the team’s best three of four gross stableford scores used, contributions for all team members throughout the weekend are often required. So it proved to be the case with every team member contributing at least 2 scores throughout the 4 rounds.
In round 1 on the Friday, the team got off to a slower start recording a team total of 87 leaving them back in 7th place. The contributing scores came from Rachel Eder with 31, Naomi Wallace with her 29, and Sally Rossiter with 27. Onto Day 2 with the team looking to climb the table with the double round day. Things started much more positively with the team improving to combine for a team score of 96. Rossiter’s 33 was the pick of the scores but was closely followed by Wallace’s 32 with both Eder and Jo Kent recording a 31. With that positive score, the team looked to continue the momentum into the 3rd round and for the most part they did scoring a team 89. Wallace again contributing with her 32 alongisde Rossiter’s 30 and Kent’s 27.
Onto Sunday and the final round the team had a chance of leapfrogging into 3rd if they could better the ladies from Auckland and North Harbour’s performance. And that they did by the narrowest of margins. Their round 4 score of 86 lifted them to a final total of 358, which sat them equal with both Auckland and North Harbour’s final total, however their fourth player score of 25 (Rossiter) saw them get home as part of the countback rules, bettering that of Auckland and North Harbour to claim take third place. The 3 contributing scores in that round were from Wallace (30), Eder (29), and Kent (27.)
